Zion Community Art Space first opened its doors in June 2011 – and hasn’t the time flown by?
It’s been nine years of hard work but we hope you’ll agree that we’ve given this much loved community building a wonderful new lease of life and provided some great events and a lovely cafe for all of you to enjoy.
The last service at Zion Methodist Church was held in August 2008. Once a focus for the local community of Bedminster Down, this beautiful chapel was left derelict after the congregation could no longer afford to sustain it.
In 2010, Jess Wright discovered the old church was up for sale – she’d been hunting for ages for a unique property that could house the various community projects that she’d worked on over the years in south Bristol. The minute she walked through Zion’s arch-shaped doors, she was captivated – and committed to reviving this important community hub. With the help of Triodos Bank, she managed to buy Zion the next year.
Work began to restore the building as a centre for the community and to provide Bedminster Down with a ‘safe creative space for all the community to use’.
Zion provides a daytime café alongside facilities for families with a soft play area for kids. We run over 200 activites and events each year. This inspiring venue is available to rent for meetings, parties, workshops and much, much more.
We hope that everyone will enjoy their visit and recommend a trip to Zion to all their friends and family. We need your support – now more than ever!
