Jazzata presents… Ian Sherwood
May 9 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm| 10/12
“Everywhere To Go” is Sherwood’s latest studio creation. The album is considered to be his best to date and is chock-full of instantly appealing hooks and singable choruses while sitting comfortably in Sherwood’s signature style of imaginative, narrative writing.
From Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sherwood is a musician, story teller and a constant creator. He has penned tunes for many other artists as well as for theatre, film and television.
He was named Contemporary Singer of the Year by the 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Best Male Artist of the Year by the 2012 International Acoustic Music Awards and was the 2008 and 2010 Music Nova Scotia; Musician Of The Year.
Bob Mersereau of CBC Radio, Fredericton described him as “… a natural performer who entertains as much with his wit and stories as with his songs.”
Starting his music career as an in-demand saxophone player in Toronto, Sherwood soon began looking for an outlet for his poetic side. His unique musicianship combined with his tales of heart-break, victory and adventure quickly gained recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player. This led to a nomination for the 2011 ECMA award for Male Solo Artist Recording of the Year.
His highly anticipated new album “Everywhere To Go” was released in September, 2014.
“….beautiful lyrics, and beautiful images in his songs” CBC’s Freestyle
His shows are infectious and he has a sound which covers Folk and Americana with a light popish feel through his songs; which when you hear them sounds like they should be smash hits for likes of a Robbie Williams or a Gary Barlow.
However the songs and delivery is distinctly Ian’s own and his wonderful guitar playing combined with his sharp saxophone licks; plus the use of overlaying sounds to create his own backing band, makes for a great night of entertainment, check him out!
“….impressive guitar work amid catchy hook lines galore, surely the main thought in the room was, “Yep. It’s only a matter of time before he’s a household name.” -Todd MacLean, Charlottetown Guardian
